The Knots Prayer
Dear God :
Please untie the knots that are in my mind,
my heart and my life.
Remove the have not's,
the can not's and the do not's
that I have in my mind
Erase all the will not's,
and might not's
that may find a home in my heart .
Release me from the could not's
and would not's
that obstruct my life.
And most of all
Dear God;
I ask that you remove from my mind,
my heart and my life
all the am not's
that I have allowed to hold me back,
especially the thought,
that I am not good enough.

I have been alive for 50 years now, half a century, and I've seen my share of knots in my life. I've had them in all three places, sometimes all at once; in my mind, heart and my life.
I totally relate to this poetic message about the knots/not's in our lives, but I also can tell you about how to untie those knots/not's or not let them get tangled in the first place. 50 years of experience qualifies me for that.
The resonating theme for me in this poem is the last part "....especially the part that I am not good enough". You are good enough! I don't care if your fat, skinny, gay, straight, man, woman, black, white, or any other color under the rainbow, YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH!
It is my own personal belief that God loves us all equally, no matter our choices or preferences we choose in this life. WE are ALL Children of God!
Never, ever, let another human being tell you that you are "not" worthy, or good enough. Or that your to fat or to skinny, or your voice wasn't the right pitch or your feet are both left and you can't dance a step. You believe in who you know YOU are. You believe that you can do anything and then you can do it.
It took Thomas Edison a thousand times to discover the light bulb, so what if it takes you 12 times to make that casting call, or getting that 'A' on your college exam. So what, if it takes you 100 times to find that perfect mate, at least you found him/her.
Listen carefully, please: BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! Believe in the good you know you are and can be. Believe you are worthy of good things, great things and that yes, you, you can achieve them.
Yes, it might be hard. Yes, it might take a long time, but isn't it better doing it for yourself than having someone else do it for you? You can do it!
Never let any "NOT" or "KNOT" tie you up. Get rid of them now! Wipe them from your vocabulary, it's not proper English anyway.
If you have no one on your side, then trust me, PLEASE trust me on this....you have one person and that is the most important person of all and that is you! You are the only person on this planet that you can rely on, ever! Everyone around you, I swear it to be true, will let you down at some point in your life. Your mother, father, siblings, children, spouses, friends, etc. Sometimes a stranger is a better friend to you, than the ones you already have.
I'm not saying go out and alienate yourself from everyone and only talk to strangers, all I'm saying is you are the only one you can trust, other than God. God, will never, ever let you down. If you don't believe in a God, then that is your choice and I can appreciate your choice, but there is a higher power that I think most people can agree too (I said most), and if you have no one to turn to, turn to that higher being. Call it whatever you want, turn to it.
Lastly, You always have me. Trusted 'ole Debbie who was here and I'll always be here.
